1. Select a good driving school

When it comes to learning how to drive, your best choice is a good driving school. At Fuzion Driving School in Brooklyn, it's possible for new students to qualify for a free lesson so they can see if we are a good fit. Click here to see if you qualify for a free lesson.

2. Get enough practice.

According to NYS DMV, nearly half (48%) of road test applicants in New York failed their road test in 2024. And the #1 reason cited for failure was being under prepared. More than likely, they did not get enough practice.

For new students now getting started, Fuzion Driving School recommends 8 to 12 lessons to get started. If you can afford the 12 lesson package, it's best because you will have more time to practice.

You see learning to drive requires repitition and the more time you have to repeat things, the faster you will learn and the better you will learn. This is why we recommend 12 lessons to start with.

However, if you are not able to start with 12 lessons, you can start with our 8 lesson package and add 4 more later if you need them. Click here to view our packages.

3. Put In The Time Behind The Wheel

You can't learn how to drive by reading a book. You have to actually drive. 45 minute practice sessions are not good for beginning students.

Beginning students should start with a minimum of 90 minutes per practice session. Less than that and you are literally wasting your time and your money.

4. Keep Your Practice Sessions Close. When learning to drive, your practice sessions are more effective when kept close to each other. Student make the grave mistake of spreading their lessons apart so they don't run out of lessons too soon.

This is a big mistake on their part. You see, 8 lessons are 8 lessons whether you do all in one day or spread them out over 8 weeks. However, 8 lessons close together are more effective them 8 lessons spread apart. You see when you keep your practice sessions close together, it creates a layering effect.

Much like building a brick wall. You get to stack bricks (knowledge) upon each other. However, when you spread your practice sessions too far apart, this layering effect disappears.

For instance, if I start the process of teaching you how to parallel park today and have to wait until next week to continue the process, you will have forgotten what I taught you the week before.

Consequently, we will have to teach you again what we taught you the week before. Essentially we are just spinning our wheels and not getting anywhere resulting in a horrible waste of time and money.

5. Do practice road test.

After we teach you how to drive, we give you a practice road test to see if you are road test ready. If you are road test ready, we recommend that you book your road test.

While you are waiting for your road test date to arrive, we recommend doing one 45 minute practice session each week up to the week of your road test.
